What follows is an extremely brief, yet very important piece of information in getting to know your GNU/Linux system. Every so often, this tiny bit of information is left unmentioned in GNU/Linux literature. —To sell more books?— This is that documentation about the installed packages is stored locally on your system in /usr/share/doc.

Moreover, if you are using a Debian-derived GNU/Linux distribution, there is a good chance that you can also install dhelp for additional, locally available documentation in HTML format.

$ sudo apt-get install dhelp

The hyperlinks below point to these local files on your hard drive. However, as such, these links will not open in your browser. Either copy the links manually to the navigation toolbar of your browser or use the links contained in the adjacent PDF versions of this page.
